EMERGENCY PROCEDURES TRAINING

Guidelines
• The Hotel considers that the health and safety of its employees, guests, clients and members of the public is of great importance.
• The Hotel, through management and training at all levels, has a responsibility to provide a safe environment at all times, and in accepting this responsibility it will provide training in the emergency procedures, and ensure that all employees are fully familiar with these procedures at all times.
• The focus of training activities will be to:
• ensure the operational readiness of employees in anticipation of emergencies;
• safeguard human lives during emergency situations;
• safeguard the building.
• Training activities will ensure that all employees know what to do in the following emergency situations:
• Bomb Threat and Threat of Terrorist Attack
• Dead Person Found Procedure
• Heart Attack and CPR Procedure
• Flood/Water Leakage Procedure
• Gas Leak Procedure
• Lift failure / Person Trapped Procedure
• Power Failure / Black Out Procedure
• Telecommunication Breakdown Procedure
Recommendations
• The Chief of Security will assign one of his staff to be the Department Trainer on emergency procedures.
• The Chief of Security and Security Supervisors will attend the Train the Trainer course to assist them in training.
• The Department Trainer will make a monthly training plan in the manner described in the Training Policy and Procedures Manual, section Department Skills Training.
• The Department Trainer will train the Security Guards how to perform their duties, and follow up with constant monitoring and remedial training as necessary.
• The Security Supervisors will use the Daily Briefing to provide remedial training for the Security Guards as necessary. Because the Security Guards work for a contracted Security company, the Security Supervisors will monitor them constantly to ensure that they perform to the required standards, and they will provide remedial training on the job as necessary.
• The Assistant Chief of Security, Security Supervisors and Training Manager will provide information about training needs to the Department Trainer and Chief of Security.
• The Department Trainer will also include in his/her monthly training plan training for the Supervisors in other departments about aspects of security in their department. The Supervisors will then train their staff about what they have learned.

• The main examples are as follows:
1. Concierge
• Baggage handling, storage and damage procedures.
2. Front Office and Concierge
• Guest safe deposit boxes.
3. Housekeeping
• Theft from a guest room.
4. Accounting
• In-house cash transfer procedures.
5. All departments

• The duties of Security personnel.
• The Lost and Found procedure.
• Dealing with suspicious people.
• Preventing and dealing with robbery incidents.
• Dealing with damage to hotel property.
• Removal of goods from the hotel.
• Key control.
• Access control procedures.
• Dealing with troublesome guests.

• Supervisors in all departments are expected to use the Daily Briefing occasionally to ensure that their staff know the Security procedures.
• Each Department Head will carry out spot-checks of his/her staff to make sure that the staff know the Security procedures. S/he will report any training needs to the Supervisor, who will provide remedial training as necessary.
